How to Fix 100% Disk Usage Error in Windows 10

If you are using Windows 10 and your task manager displays 100% disk usage then there is some issue that is putting a lot of burden on your hard disk.

You must be finding your PC slow and to such an extent that you don’t feel like using it. Now you must be thinking what went wrong and there is no reason why this happens. It is a problem that occurs on its own but has a solution too.
Disable Windows search permanently

If you find that Window search is showing the error- 100% disk usage in our Windows 10 OS then try disabling Windows search permanently.

Press- Windows logo key + R together and then type- services.msc.

Find the option – Windows search. Double click it to open the properties window.

Change the settings of Startup to- Disabled and then click- Apply and then press OK and the changes will be saved

Check the disk usage of your PC. Type- task manager in the search bar and choose- Task Manager.

In Processes tab check the % right at the top of Disk column. In case you do not view 100% that means the issue is resolved.

Disable SuperFetch

On your keyboard press- Windows key + X simultaneously and then select – Command Prompt (admin)

Click- Yes at User Account Control

The command prompt will be displayed again. Now type net.exe stop superfetch

Press- enter from your keyboard

Wait for a while to check if the PC performs well.
Carry out a disk check

On your keyboard press- Windows key + X simultaneously and then select – Command Prompt (admin)

Click- Yes at User Account Control

The command prompt will be displayed again. Now type- chkdsk.exe/f/r

Hit- Enter using your keyboard and then type Y. Typing Y will confirm that you wish to perform the disk check on your next attempt to restart your system. Make sure all your applications are closed.

Reset- Virtual Memory

Virtual memory is basically the combination of some section of hard drive and RAM. When you have insufficient RAM on your system to save files, Windows will save the files temporarily in virtual memory and shift them back to your RAM when needed.

From your keyboard press- Windows key as well as Pause/Break key together.

Select- Advanced System Settings located on the panel to the left.

Go to – Advanced tab and click- Settings

Head to – Advanced tab once again and select – Change from the Virtual memory area.

Make sure this box is not checked – Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.

Choose the window drive you have and enter the initial as well as the maximum size of the virtual memory.

Once entered the values click- Set and click- OK to proceed.

Delete all the temp files stored on your computer. 

From your keyboard press- Windows + R together and in Run type- temp and press – enter. This will open IE including the Temp folder showing the temp files stored on your computer.

Select the files stored in Temp folder and simply delete them.
